Floor Sanding UK – Tips for Sanding Floors

May 5, 2009

Floor Sanding UK have been in the business of Sanding Floors for over 15 years, in this time we have seen our fair share of DIY Disasters and shabby work by Rogue Tradesmen. In all cases we can put it down to inexperienced workers and insufficient knowledge. See below for a few Top Tips on Sanding Floors the right way…

Floor Sanding Tip Number One: When Sanding Floors you MUST work through the grades of Abrasive from Coarse to Fine (eg. 24 > 40 > 80 > 120) on both the Main Floor Sander and the Floor Edger. This will ensure you get rid of all scratches before trying to apply your choice of finish. Be warned that if you don’t work through the grades of Abrasive you will hardly be able to see any of the scratches BUT they WILL stick out like a sore thumb once you start to apply your finish.

Floor Sanding Tip Number Two: ALWAYS apply whatever Floor Sanding Machine you are using smoothly to or from the floor while it is moving (eg. with the main sander be moving forwards before you apply the abrasive to the floor). If you don’t do this you will end up with grooves and marks that are very hard to remove, even for the professionals.

Floor Sanding Tip Number Three: ALWAYS move at a steady speed otherwise you run the risk of chatter marks which again are very hard to remove.

Floor Sanding Tip Number Four: NEVER STOP the floor sanding machine while the abrasive is still in contact with the Floor otherwise you WILL end up with grooves in the floor that even a professional would find hard to totally remove.
